Vergelegen

Vergelee NG churchVergelee shopOliver just wanted to go a bit further to see what this Vergelegen is all about. I said, there is nothing, just a name on the map. I had to change my opinion when I saw the spire of a church sticking out from the bush.
The name is spelled differently, depending which source one consults. In the NG church archives it's Vergelegen and in Google Earth it's Vergeleë, both mean the same, a place far away. The geo-location is: 25.778°S, 24.1942°E and and the altitude 1071m.
Vergelegen consists of two shops and a church. The church is a NG church (Nederduitse Gereformierte Kerk). Originally Vergelegen was part of the Stella congregation, 121 km away. On the 1 March 1945 they ceded from Stella to form a new congregation, which included Piet Plessis. 1970 they built this church. There is no information about what they used before then as a church.
The two shops are a general dealer (see picture on the right) and a farming requirement shop.
